    Supercluster Members

Formed Spring 2007 as a recording project by keyboardist /vocalist Vanessa Briscoe Hay (Pylon) and drummer /vocalist Hannah Jones (The New Sound of Numbers, Circulatory System) as an outlet for songs Vanessa had coming into her head which were not Pylon type material. Vanessa thought that they should be a collective,-hat members could rotate in and out according to availability as long as a few.core members were available. They recruited a dream team from their family and friends-
    Pylon (electric guitar- Randy Bewley)
Casper & the Cookies (Bass, vocals -Kay Stanton, Electric guitar, keyboard - Jason NeSmith)
Bob Hay & the Jolly Beggars, Squalls (acoustic guitar - Bob Hay)
North Georgia Bluegrass (mandolin, backing vocals -Bill David)
E6 (Bass Clarinet, clarinet, violin -John Fernandes)

Will Cullen Hart and Peter Erchick were members at the beginning and Supercluster practiced at the Landfill during that time.
    ************

Supercluster’s sound was called Appalachian Wave because of the eclectic mix of angular electric electric guitar, post punk bass and acoustic instruments topped by 3 harmonizing female and one male vocalists. Unusual arrangements might feature a clarinet, the sound of wood being knocked over in the garage, bells, a paper bag...lyrics about death, a mermaid, war, peace, distance, love, loss, trees..with moods ranging from twee to experimental to rocking.
They opened some Northeast shows for the B-52s including at Wolftrapp, shared a tour with Casper & the Cookies to perform at SXSW, played shows in Athens opening for artists like Bradford Cox and Grant Hart —and performed at several Athens Popfest shows with anywhere from 5- 9 people onstage (depending on who was available).
Several videos were made and can be found on YouTube:
“I Got The Answer” video by John Lee Matney and Paul Thomas
“Too Many Eights” video by Vanessa Briscoe Hay
“Neat In the Street” video by Hana Hay
“Memory of the Future” video by Hannah Jones and Hana Hay
“Things We Used to Drink” by Hana Hay
Supercluster were mainly a recording project.
They were joined live and on some recordings by guitarist Bryan Poole (Of Montreal, late bp helium), cellist Heather McIntosh. Pianist Damon Denton joined them live on at least one occasion.
After the death of Randy Bewley, guitarist Bradford Cox helped them record and complete 3 unfinished tracks in the studio.
